Injured Reserve

Quick post today.

I put myself on the injured reserve list. After a week of random hamstring and thigh tightness and twinges, I gave in and stopped running today.

I have had increased tightness today and tingling in the associated foot all day. Fml

Internet says I either have aliens ready to burst out of my leg with lasers or an upper hamstring strain.

I called a sports doctor and have an appointment for Wednesday. I would like to at least maintain some easy runs through this period. But I'm mentally preparing for a no run order or having scrap a good marathon finish goal or running it at all.

Now if you don't mind, I'm going to go back to drowning myself in junk food.

  1. So you finally listened to your blog title?

You didn't stop, you're just taking some necessary rest time. Good call scheduling an appointment too, hopefully you can figure out what's up and get back to it soon! :)

Sorry to hear about your strain. Huge bummer, but I'm sure the rest now will only pay off when it comes time for October.

  4. Noooooooo! Tingling in the foot? That sounds distinctly alien-ish. If it were me I'd stop running altogether (I don't think it's a super awesome idea to run when you've got obviously irregular pains), but if you do run, take it super easy! And enjoy your junk food.

  5. lol yup! I was going to type something witty about that, but I hope it is more temporary than not. I hope I have the green light for some light jogging to maintain some of my training.

  6. Me too! Would have to lose endless hours of running and lost sleep over this! Half way through training and getting injured is abig bummer!
Junk food menu, ice cream shake, french fries, chips, and who knows what else!

  7. Hopefully I don't have to be benched too long. Biggest fear is doc saying don't run the marathon.

  8. Very alienish. Funny how I was feeling better on days I did run. Blah blah. I'm not going to run again until I go a full day without feeling tight pulls in my hamstring and have full feeling in my foot!

You should check out the docs at the Running Institute. They are all about keeping you in your training, and amazing! I loved my experience with them.

  10. Hang in there, you'll be back running in no time. I had the tingling in my foot earlier this year. The tightness in your hamstring is probably caused by some inflammation and squeezing the nerve that runs from your back all the way down your leg. Try taking an anti-inflammatory and see how that works out.

  11. I'm sorry to hear about your possible hamstring strain! Luckily you made that appointment so you'll find out what's going on. Hopefully the treatment will just be some rest and rehab. If you do run, I'd take it really easy as not to hurt it anymore.

Are you swimming in a pool of frozen custard? Does that count as an ice bath?

  12. I'll keep them in mind if my current appointment doesn't pan out!

I'm going to see this guy:

  13. Your scenario sounds a lot less scary that the internet research! Thanks!

  14. Yea. I'm hoping I can maintain some slow jogs with doc approval so I don't start losing months of training.

A pool of frozen custard sounds AMAZING! I probably eat that much custard a month... how do I burn calories now?!?

  15. I think you're smart to take a break and rest up. It's better to stop now and not cause any real damage. Hopefully, your sports doc will give you some ideas of ways to rehab your leg quickly and get you back to running!

Have you tried pool jogging? That might be a way to maintain running fitness but not cause any more damage! Hang in there!!

  16. Hopefully I'm just freaking out disproportionately to whatever injury I have!
Have been thinking about pool jogging and the such! Hoping that by Tuesday I can be tightness free and think about putting on a couple miles.

  17. Oh man, so sorry to hear about this. But it is better now than later. I mean I am sure you'll be back to running and training SOON.

ARTBOOMLWL (Aliens Ready To Burst Out Of My Leg With Lasers) is a serious condition and WebMD always tells me i have it no matter what symptoms i enter. I once entered that i had a mild headache and it said that it was either ARTBOOMLWL or that i hadn't had enough coffee yet that day. Naturally i drank a tall dark roast, but still took precautions for aliens; better safe than sorry. Feel better soon!

  19. ARTBOOMLWL would be a pretty awesome excuse for an DNS for a race... and a book deal!

  20. This sucks man, sorry to hear it. Get some rest and let things heal up...easy to say, hard to do.
Still lots of time until h race really...a week or two away (hopefully less!!) won't hurt you too much. The hardest part will be knowing what to do with yourself! Maybe there's some cross training you can do?

  21. I too am behind on blog reading - So sorry to hear this! Hope it is nothing serious!

  22. Walking trips to get custard + shoving your face with custard count as workouts, right? ;-)
