Sunday and Monday Run Recaps (Exciting Title)

My blogging muse has not inspired me today to engulf you with hilarity or motivation thoughts. But as this blog's initial conception was to recap my training and runs, I'll keep it short to do that today.

Sunday: 14 miles, 7:45am. Seems to have been a pretty popular distance for the weekend. Was real nice to run in the cooler air. I had two goals for this run, slow down and work on my fueling strategy. The Hanson Plan says I should be running my long run ~7:40 minute miles. I've been doing 7:05-7:20. Yesterday... 7:15. I need to work on this. Fueling wise, I did good. I bought:
good for kids too?
They settled good, easy to take, light taste.

I was a bit tired the rest of the day and had trouble getting my appetite going until...6pm.

Today, 6 mile recovery run. I woke up at 4:30am, and felt a little nauseous. I was tempted to skip today, but got up anyways and see how things progressed. I took a couple pepto, and told myself, this is the slowest, shortest run of the week, tough it out. So I did. I only had a few minutes of uneasiness, but the rest of the run was pretty enjoyable. Here is a photo from the start:

So your time wasn't a complete bore, here is a funny running video (WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE)

Have a great day!

  1. Nice runs this weekend Declan!
I haven't tried the Clif gels yet, I stick to Gu's. had a tough time getting the PB Gu down yesterday though, seemed extra thick. You'll have to let us know how the Clif gels work out...will have to try the PowerGel gels too as it looks like that's what is supplied on course for the Chicago Marathon

  2. Thanks! I tried Gu once and didn't like the thickness. Maybe it was just because it was my first attempt. The Cliffs are nice, smooth, easy to get down in a couple gulps. I'm going to bring my own gels to the race, practicing stocking my pockets, maybe even get a little running belt?

    Thanks for commenting!

Great sunrise photo, and way to get out there this morning! Your box of running gels reminds me of the time I swore I was operating a running store out of my house. I've found it easier to acquire running stuff in bulk, but sometimes I definitely have excess inventory. Hope you like the flavor!

  5. Stop with the exciting titles! My HR can't take it! :P (<-- me trying to be funny)

It's crazy how it's hard to slow down on long runs! Are you sure you have the right pace in mind? You aren't selling yourself short?

HAHAHA thanks for sharing - hilarious! I am not sold on gus and gels, personally, but I like the Clif shot blocks! And ... candy!

  11. I know my titles are just so suggestive and vulgar!

Pretty sure I have the right pace in mind, I'm more scared that I may be burning myself harder than I should be on the long runs!
